Intro
The Shark Best New Talent Awards is an annual event that recognises the outstanding work of young, up-and-coming film industry professionals who specialise in advertising. Our mission is to find and promote the best new talent (age under 30) in the following categories: Director, Producer, DOP, Editor, Colourist, Sound Designer, Music Composer.
The work is carefully judged by a panel of seasoned industry professionals, and our mission is to provide a platform for young and emerging talent to gain recognition and exposure for their work. We hope our awards will inspire and ignite the imaginations of creative storytellers everywhere.

Being chosen to participate in any awards jury is an honour and a privilege. One that myself and the Kinsale Sharks 2023 New Emerging Talent jury took very seriously. We knew we had a responsibility to do right by the entrants, the wider industry and of course ourselves, all working professionals in the advertising industry too. So we applied pressure on ourselves and rightly so. This lovely jury, all hugely busy, passionate people, got up early, stayed up late to and watch all of the entries which invited much lively discussion.
Thank you to Philip, Anita, Ben and Jess, what a unique pleasure to get to rap about new talent with you all. ❤️
Judges
I think it’s safe to say that there was a varied selection of work. We saw a lot of entries in a similar vein. Content work that brands are clearly commissioning from younger creatives and that serves a purpose for social. All very capable and well executed.
Amongst the entries though, were some stand out, truly inventive and fresh pieces of work that surprised and fascinated in equal measure. Curious casting, fantastic music, colour grading and editing.
Although we shortlisted the Best New Director categories the actual winners will be decided by the delegates at Kinsale, they will have a job to decide! I hope they see what we saw.
