Occasionally, it’s the brutally simplistic ideas that captivate us most. This stylistically naive animation although angled towards those of us with childbearing on the mind, harks to a universal insight within us all…The unnerving sound effects of the rubber ring become a joke unto themselves mixed with the not-too-subtle voice characterization, (adjusted to double speed) enhances the mischievous humour, leaving us laughing…but also pensive…are we amused because it’s genuinely funny, or because it taps into something deeper…?

A brilliant one-woman band production and worthy winner: writer + animator + director - Florence Poppy Deary.

Florence: “Animation is a great tool for any writer or director to have up their sleeve. It allows you to try stuff, and hone your voice without having to pay through the nose for a film crew!”

"Is This a Good Time..." is a painfully relatable story of a woman’s bath, ruined by intrusive thoughts. This film was written, voice-acted, illustrated, and animated by Florence Poppy Deary herself with £0 budget. Winning THREE GOLD SHARKS for Best Writing, Best Animation, and Best Short Short.

Florence is a writer, animator, and director with a sharp instinct for dialogue and a surgical approach to comedy. While working full-time as a creative at award-winning agencies such as Wieden+Kennedy and Mother London—on campaigns for brands like Nike, TK Maxx, Sainsbury’s, and Diet Coke (to name a few)—she never stopped making films, writing, and developing her own comedy on the side, continuously honing her distinct voice and gaining popularity through her cult Instagram account, .@florencepoppydeary where she delivers pithy, acerbic takes on the human condition.

Most recently, she has been directing more live-action, with the support of Biscuit Filmworks and Wieden + Kennedy, she completed her first fully funded live-action short film, SOS, But Don’t Worry If Not, shot on a WW2 battleship in Chatham Dockyard, the script alone reached the final round of the Slick Film Fund and has started to create a buzz on the festival circuit.

Florence has also started directing commercials through Biscuit Filmworks, most notably a set of eight adverts for Hilton Hotels working alongside comedy genius Jeff Low, where Florence helmed the social campaign. Her reel is packed full of laugh-out-loud adverts, or advert-length films, proving she’s a safe pair of hands for any agency or brand looking for fresh, distinctive, and hilarious director. “We are so excited to be working with Florence and making it official with her joining the roster. Her comedy instincts and storytelling ability feel like a perfect fit.” said MD Rupert Reynolds-MacLean.

Now officially on Biscuit’s roster, Florence Poppy Deary is a force to be reckoned with.
